Utility Billing Policy Updates

The City of Rochelle announces several updates to the utility billing code to better serve our customers. 

RMU Customers will no longer be required to place a deposit for utility services, but instead a non-refundable $60 activation fee will be required for any new customer that has not had RMU utility service in the prior 12 months. All customers with deposits currently in place will receive an account credit within the coming weeks. 

Also new is landlord notification of a utility shut-off.  Since a lien may be placed on a property with a utility shut-off, landlords will be notified of a utility shut-off taking place at their property.  This does not happen when a payment is simply late, but only when a shut-off occurs.

An update to late fees and reconnection fees also took place.  Late fees, which were previously waived due to the pandemic, will be reinstated as of September 1.  Administrative fees for all customers will be charged at 7:00am on the day of disconnection if the bill is not paid in full or payment arrangements have not been made by that time.  The administrative fee for commercial and industrial customers is $250 and $50 for residential customers.  Returned checks will result in a $35 fee.
