IEPA Increases Water Chlorination Requirements

Following an increase in required chlorination levels in Illinois drinking water supplies by the Illinois Environmental Protection, Rochelle Municipal Utilities will increase from the previous .5 milligrams per liter to 1 milligram per liter.  The regulations are part of an effort to decrease the frequency of Legionnaire’s Disease, a pneumonia-like condition.  The previous standards were adopted in the 1980s.

As a result of the increased chlorination, residents may notice a chlorine-odor in the water.
